Layers

The majestic Grand Canyon is a sight to see
You can even fly over for just a small fee
But most striking of all,and based on the data
Are the Precambrian layers and the unending strata
The canyon was carved by a river’s great chore
They say its years are six million or more
But Creationists say that couldn’t be true
The Earth’s years are just one thousand or two
Creation aside,let’s switch our gears
to a man of great talent and many tough years
He goes by the name of Freezing Wet Duck
You’ll see him riding a bike,Jeep or truck
So what are his layers, there are more than a few
And all that I write,I assure you is true
The first is his life as a laid back vet
If your horse stands and breaths,an “A” it will get
In his past he was a drunk chicken inspector
A crazy and wild vaccine injector
He was young and spry, what life would he choose?
It might have been great if it weren’t for the booze
As an endurance ride leader,he’s second to none
Screw AERC,he just wants some fun
In twenty eleven we’re going to wail
On 2,000 miles of the old Pony Trail
His view on environment is “anything goes”
But he cares more for the land than anyone knows
Sierra Club zealots may piously gloat
But for protecting the Earth,Dave gets my vote
As a political man,he’s all in a shambles
He rants and raves and kicks at the brambles
When it comes to elections, give him some Tums
His anarchist chant is “Throw out the bums”
One day he got a mighty strong yen
He’d been to Alaska – it called him again
On an island he built a cabin or two
A happier man you never knew
No taxes,no neighbors,a free-living life
Some bears, cold weather, but not too much strife
He lives the motto of all Alaskan guys
“It ain’t easy to be sleazy,” but God knows he tries
As an angler he trolls from his 30-foot boat
The problem is,it won’t stay afloat
It sprang a leak, now he’s pumpin’ and bailin’
He could use some help – where’s Sarah Palin?
His last layer’s about his family life
His darling young daughter and a beautiful wife
He’s a tough one to manage, and get to behave
If he’s the “Land of the Free,” they’re the “Home of the Brave”
So raise your glass high to Grand Canyon’s best layer
He might be agnostic,he might be a prayer
Sometimes he’s crude,sometimes a dear
To our friend Dave, let’s all give a cheer
